07 Jun Meta’s Advertising Platform Is a Train Wreck
If you work in advertising you’re well aware of the problem with Meta advertising but for potential clients and readers I’ll explain exactly why Meta’s ad platform is an absolute train wreck right now and why your account might be suspended.
If you remember, Mark Zuckerberg apologized to investors for a multi-billion dollar bad business decision that was the Metaverse. The aftermath of that failure was a slew of layoffs. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) that means reducing headcount wherever you think you can replace humans with machines.
Facebook Marketing Specialists were not omitted from the chopping block during these layoffs and what has ensued since has been an absolute clusterfuck for advertisers and brands.
Meta’s AI decided that once it was implemented it would use their AI to suspend credible advertisers over one weekend. It has been suspending legitimate, credible accounts for weeks at a time while their customer support for Ads, which has zero impact with the actual employees in the Ads division, has been somewhat helpful to explain what is happening but they aren’t allowed to unlock accounts.
There’s a deleted post that exists of a Meta engineer who’s trying to restore access to advertisers — only to have the AI overrule his decisions. It’s a complete joke at this point.
The decision to remove humans from the process and trust a flawed AI has been a complete disaster. Like many agencies, we have shifted our spend for clients elsewhere. It’d be wise to do the same than suffer through a complete reset and unpredictable proving ground driven by bad software vs. other platforms who have this figured out.
